We were instructed by Morgan Ashurst to construct a hybrid structure comprising 50% steel and 50% Glulam timber. The project, another design by NPS Architects consisted of a rotunder with a stepped fan roof cascading off one side.
We were again involved at the design stage advising on how best to achieve the difficult geometry required to form the cascade roof, and steel to timber connection.
The GL 32 strength Glulam sections by Finnforest were manufactured to our drawings off site in their main factory at the same time as the steel section were fabricated and rolled, all coming together just before Christmas 2007 for erection during the xmas and new year holidays.
